Mark Mautone, a Verona resident who teaches children with special needs in Hoboken, was in Washington, D.C. last week as one of 55 educators from across the country honored for being teachers of the year in their home states.
Mautone had been selected by Hudson County as its teacher of the year in 2014 and was later named New Jersey Teacher of the Year.
In Washington, the teachers were feted at a reception at the White House. That’s Mautone in the photo above, just to the left of President Obama. He also met with the other state honorees at the U.S. Department of Education.
