LIONSThe Verona Lions Club will present three cash awards of $1,000 each or, depending on the quality of the submissions/actual community service performed, possibly 2 awards for $1500 each, to Verona residents graduating high school this year, 2015, who best exhibit public service to their school, church/temple, or the Township of Verona. The Verona Lions Club’s High School Public Service Award criteria is not based on academic achievement nor financial need but rather exclusively on the student’s “volunteer service”, which is the heart of the Verona Lions Club’s belief and credo: “We Serve”!

Applicants from Verona High School should apply by providing a list, description and dates or time spent in their community volunteer service no later than Friday, May 1, 2015 to Diane Newman, Verona HS Guidance Department.
The list of volunteer service projects/ activities should include a brief description of the service(s) and the time/ dates involved for adequate evaluation by the VLC Awards committee.

Verona residents graduating from out-of-Verona high schools who would like to participate for consideration of their community service, should send their list of service, as described above, to:
Verona Lions Club, P.O. Box 38, Verona, NJ 07044 – attn: 2015 High School Scholarship Committee.

NOTE: Each students’ submission should be postmarked no later than May 1, 2015.

Per Lions President Frank Ricciardi, “the following is a non-exclusive list of volunteer service examples that the Verona Lions believe form the basis for our awards…”
► Service to/ thru the administrative offices of your high school;
► Service as a member of your school’s student government;
► Service to a fund-raising effort to benefit your school, church, synagogue or community:
► Service to a social function committee
► Service to the school librarian, nurse, or audio-visual efforts
► Service for civic or charitable efforts
► Service to benefit the town of Verona.
► Service to others for the environment, senior citizens, disabled etc.

All listings of “public service” performed for the common good will be considered and appreciated!
