The Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, March 5 to adopt the tentative school budget for 2013-2014.
As we reported, Verona is getting no additional aid from the $87 million that Gov. Chris Christie earmarked for schools in his budget speech last week, leaving our aid flat at last year’s $843,727. That means that Verona Superintendent Steven A. Forte needs to pare about $200,000 from the budget before tonight’s meeting. The governor signed a law last year that relieves school districts from having a public vote on their budgets unless that budget goes above the state-mandated 2% cap on expenditures.
You can catch up on the BOE’s last meeting by watching the video below. Tonight’s meeting begins at 7:30 p.m., not the usual 8 p.m., and it will be held in the Media Center at VHS.
